The Manx Beauty, which was built in Cellardyke 81 years ago, is now back in the East Neuk, having been brought up from Birkenhead.

The boat was brought out of the water in November, but it took time to work out the logistics of getting it back to Fife.

Richard Wemyss, member of the Bring Back the Beauty campaign, said the next stage is to assess the state of the boat, a process which will include stripping out the interior and engine.

The team will then be able to see how much needs to be done to bring the boat back to life, and how much money they will need from funders to achieve this.

Richard wants the boat’s restoration to be a community project. He has been in contact with various local groups and organisations about being involved in the project.

“We’ve got time,” he said. “It’s not a rushed process. I’m expecting it to take around three to four years. Let’s do this properly.”

Richard said the project also had a lot of support from the local community.

“This boat is so iconic,” he added. “I’ve been doing talks and folk are excited that it’s come back.

“I’ve had old ladies stop me in the street saying how good it is that it’s back. One of the videos we’ve done has had more than 4000 views. The young people are getting involved as well.”
