Inspiring Fife girls raise money and donate hair to cancer support charities

Cupar girl Agatha King (9) had her hair thick blond hair shorn earlier this week, as did Ladybank lass Tuliya Donald, with both donating their hair to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for young people and children who have lost their hair through cancer treatment.

Agatha, who is in remission after a battle with leukaemia, had her hair cut along with 28 other people at Charlie Miller salon in Edinburgh, with each person getting a free restyle in return for donating the hair to the trust.

She raised around £620 for Team Jak, a charity which runs a centre for young people with cancer and their families to relax and receive support.

Jason Miller, managing director at the salon, had cut Agatha’s hair five years ago, after her diagnosis.

“It was lovely,” said mum Karen. “She was so excited, but I was back in the hospital room five years ago. I was in floods of tears.

“Agatha is incredible. She thinks about others. So many people don’t know about the Little Princess Trust, but they need to much hair to make the wigs. It doesn’t cost anything to make a donation.”

Also donating their hair at a different event, on the same day, was Tuliya Donald, whose sister Holly has Optic Nerve Giloma, caused by neurofibromatosis.

The 11-year-old was first diagnosed in 2012 and went through 22 months of chemotherapy. It was thought that had killed off the tumour, however, in 2018 Holly had to go through another 52 weeks of chemotherapy.

Tuliya decided to donate her hair to the Little Princess Trust and raised £785 for the Tayside Children with Cancer and Leukaemia (TCCL) charity, which supports families in the area who have children with cancer.

Holly has raised funds in the past, but this is the first time Tuliya has raised money.

“She loves TCCL, especially the Christmas party and the lodge,” said mum Vicky.

“We’re really thankful for everyone who has supported us. TCCL is an amazing charity. The difference they make a family like us is amazing. We’re so proud.”
