Kinross-shire residents spread kindess to help during coronavirus pandemic

Kinross Kindness is the brainchild of Milnathort resident Tim Mart, boss of the social enterprise Know You More, who is using modern technology to help vulnerable residents during the coronavirus pandemic.

It works by connecting a group of volunteers with local businesses and other groups to ensure that older people and those self-isolating will not go short of essential provisions and will receive support with their well-being.

Anyone needing help can complete an online form or ask someone to do it for them – and their request is matched to a volunteer who can help, whether it’s collecting shopping or prescriptions, giving advice or just being a friendly voice on the end of phone.

Tim explained: “With Know You More, we use technology to connect a community of coaches with people in organisations all over the UK.

“Now we’re using the same methodology to connect with an emergency group of volunteers. The response has been brilliant, with long lines of local people, businesses and groups looking to get actively involved.

“The likelihood is that everyone in the community will feel the impact, or are already doing so. Again, it will be the most vulnerable who feel it most and, in collaboration with the local charity Broke Not Broken, we have set up a JustGiving page to help ensure they get what they need.

“Through kindness and compassion, people and businesses will get through this together.”

Meanwhile, several local businesses are already doing their bit to help customers who have to stay at home. Among them are Hunters of Kinross, who have delivered 200 free cottage pies to locally elderly people, and Giacopazzi’s in Milnathort and Kinross, who have changed their payment technology so that customers can pay for groceries over the phone.

And Councillor Callum Purves has offered his help if anyone has questions about their welfare payments or any other issues.
