Kirkcaldy author Val McDermid set to appear on BBC book show

Kirkcaldy-born author Val McDermid is to appear on BBC Scotland’s Big Scottish Book Club, in a TV episode dedicated to crime.

Writer Damian Barr hosts the series and in this episode, he discusses grisly misdeeds and misdemeanours with Queen of Crime Val McDermid, first time novelist Richard Osman and Professor Dame Sue Black.

There's poetry from Iona Lee, from Edinburgh but now studying at Glasgow School of Art, and this week's book group, from Neilston in Renfrewshire, tell Damian what they thought about Richard Osman's The Thursday Murder Club.

Renowned Scottish anthropologist Professor Dame Sue Black will be discussing her book Written in Bone and talking about what bones can tell us about lives lived and lost, and how she often links up with Val McDermid to provide her with essential forensic info.

And Val will be discussing her classic tartan noir novel Still Life with her heroine DCI Karen Pirie.

The show is on the BBC Scotland channel at 10pm on Sunday November 8.
