Two Kirkcaldy charities are among 11 other groups in Fife to share a massive £172,302 National Lottery funding windfall.

Linton Lane Community Centre received £50,172 of funding, raised by National Lottery players, for a two year project which will allow them to continue to provide a wide range of activities for the local community including crafts, fitness and cooking.

Mandy Henderson, centre manager, said: “As soon as we are able to open fully, we will have a full programme to offer to the community. A lot of the people who benefit from these groups are young parents and adults with additional support needs who enjoy the craft and cookery group as their carers attend so they are supported and feel part of the group.

"Although there is a lot of poverty in the area surrounding the centre, there is also a huge amount of community spirit. Thanks to this funding we look forward to welcoming everyone back as soon as we safely can."

Fife Centre for Equalities received £24,659 to provide a range of support to minority ethnic older people in Fife.

Nina Munday, chief executive, said: “We envisage that this initiative will help us and our partners to build better connections with minority ethnic older people living in Fife.

"Reaching minority ethnic older people during the lockdown has been difficult because of the lack of infrastructure.

"With the financial support from The National Lottery Community Fund, we have now set up a multi-lingual team who will ensure the minority ethnic older people in Fife have what they need ahead of the winter months.”

Kate Still, The National Lottery Community Fund’s Scotland chairman, said: “In these uncertain times our priority is to ensure that National Lottery money continues to flow to charities, voluntary sector organisations and grassroots groups.

"I would like to congratulate Linton Lane Centre and Fife Centre for Equalities on their awards. Each is an important project which will support people now and in the future when they can physically come back together to make great things happen in their community.”
