The service was awarded £69,850 from The National Lottery Community, Improving Lives Fund, £30,000 from The Robertson Trust, £10,000 from Corra Foundation, £900 from Asda Foundation, and £7000 from Bank of Scotland Reach Foundation.

The cash will be used for staff wages, rent, and service charges, as well as supporting families affected by poverty and to provide counselling sessions and new equipment for the centre.

Lynne Scott, Nourish Centre manager said: “We are completely over the moon to share the news about our funding, which means that we can support more people with additional needs in the Kirkcaldy area.

"We have worked really hard over the past few years to ensure that we have the funds in place to provide support to families in Fife, and without the support of our local community we wouldn’t have been able to provide the level of help that we have.

"We have been working on grants and have been lucky with receiving small pots of money here and there, but the past few months we have applied for larger grants and we are thrilled that they have come through.”

Lynne adds that although the funding will benefit Nourish greatly, more hard work is still needed to support families in crisis.

"These funds take a huge amount of pressure off us,” she added. “However, we still have more money to raise, and of course things will crop up over the year as families are sometimes affected by crisis, and we of course will do what we can to help.

"Our work to raise funds certainly doesn’t stop here, the busier we get, the more staff we need. The more families we support, the more funds we need, and when families and children are in the centre, items are used and over time need replaced.

"Things like gas, electricity, internet, phone lines, all of these things cost a lot of money and we currently have no funding in place for these, and of course we have our fundraising campaign running just now to purchase our very own Nourish Mascot.”

Kate Still, The National Lottery Community Fund Chairman, said: “In these unprecedented times, it’s heartening to see the way Scottish communities are coming together to provide each other with support.

"I would like to congratulate Nourish on their award which is testament to the incredible efforts of their staff and volunteers.

"National Lottery players can be proud to know that the money they raise is making such a difference.”
