Lynne Scott, centre manager said: “There is no doubt 2020 was a difficult year for everyone, and the challenges many of our families already face have been made even tougher.

“Throughout all the difficulties though that the year caused, the way our community came together to support each other and charities like ours was so heartwarming and nothing short of amazing.

“During a global pandemic, our local community e helped us to open our new family support centre, enabled us to provide support to families in need, and then backed our Christmas appeal.

“Like many other organisations, we saw the need for this type of support grow. Many families who have used our services but haven’t asked for this part of our support relied on it.

“Thanks to the donations we received this year, 40 families received a fantastic food hamper to help them over the Christmas period, including some nice treat.

"And 80 children woke to fantastic gifts on Christmas morning with each receiving a large selection of toys gifts and goodies.”

Lynne said a number of that local businesses also went the extra mile to support Nourish.

“Ian Johnston funeral directors played an particularly large part in the support provided to us this year,” she added. “Ian made several trips to the centre carrying large heavy bags, and his wife Jan helped to prepare and distribute all the packages – and Ally Caldicott, Ian’s colleague, delivered to those who couldn’t make it into us to collect.

“As well as the support from the public, none of of it would have happened without our Christmas team of volunteers.

"They worked non stop with exhausting shopping trips, packing, unpacking, lifting heavy items, sacrificing time at home with their own families to come in and help us.
