A community group from Kirkcaldy delivered Easter eggs to kids over the holiday weekend to spread hope in this time of crisis.

The Linktown Tenants and Residents’ Association were delivering the chocolate treats to help raise the spirits of countless children in the area as they entered the fourth week of lockdown due to the coronavirus.

The community group have been tirelessly working around the clock to ensure that people and families in Kirkcaldy are not struggling to get the essentials during isolation, and to make sure that anyone who may be vulnerable is not forgotten about.

Community volunteer Lizzy Halstead and her team of dedicated volunteers delivered over 170 eggs last weekend in fancy dress.

Lizzy said: “The Cottage Family Centre had given us the eggs to give out to the kids in the Linktown, it was my idea to dress up as the Easter Bunny to try and cheer them all up and give them something to smile about.

“With some help from Councillor Alistair Cameron, my friend Emily, who is a key worker at the Victoria Hospital, and my son Shane Jr, we managed to hand out all the eggs in about three hours, which I thought was quite good going considering the amount that we had.

“The kids that we delivered the chocolate eggs to were absolutely over the moon, they were all waving out of the windows with big smiles excited to see the Easter Bunny bring them their eggs.

“There was one little girl who ran out of the front door and wanted to hug me, as I was dressed as the bunny, but I had to hop back to ensure that we kept to the social-distancing rules.

“It broke my heart that I couldn’t hug her but we have to stick to the rules just to be on the safe side.

Kirkcaldy Central Councillor Alistair Cameron was also on hand to help deliver the Easter eggs to the children in the community, he said: “We knew that we were going to have some issues in the community when we went into lockdown, but the community spirit that there is in the Linktown is absolutely amazing.

“The Linktown Aid Group that was set up between the Residents’ Association, myself and the Linktown Local shop has come together so well and is really making a difference in the area during these hard times.

“Delivering Easter eggs to the children was, in my opinion, a perfect way to spend Easter Sunday, to see the look on all their faces when we arrived with the eggs was brilliant, they were ecstatic.

“Lizzy and Shane Halstead from the Linktown Tenants and Residents’ Association have been amazing, even though they are taking all the proper precautions when they are out in the community helping people, they are still putting their lives on the line for others.

“They are an example of what can be done in Kirkcaldy to help others, and when the chips are down they really now how to pull everyone together.”
