The online Nostalgia@home event on Saturday, April 17 has been organised by Kirkcaldy man, Neil Smart, who has been running his own club nights to raise money for local charities.

Over the years he has collected over £15,000 for local causes supporting groups such as the Cottage Family Centre and Kirkcaldy Foodbank.

During lockdown he has been organising virtual club nights, and his next one will see him supporting the Hearts and Minds charity’s Clowndoctor and Elderflower programmes, providing much needed joy and laughter to children in hospital, hospices, special educational schools and to adults living with dementia.

It will feature local DJs Matt Allitt, Ross Jackson along with headliner, Scots DJ Graeme Park, and his brother Scott.

The online event starts from 6pm and is free – although people are being offered the chance to go on a reserve list for the next live gig where they will get priority to purchase tickets if they make a donation to the charity.

"We have been running these nights in various locations prior to lockdown and Graeme has agreed to play again at the virtual event which we are hoping to help raise funds for the charity.

"We had an idea that if everyone donates at least £5 online it will guarantee them the chance to purchase a ticket for our next live event which is sure to be a sell-out.”

He continued: “We chose Hearts and Minds because I think the work it does it great and something different – so many charities have struggled due to Covid, and my sister-in-law Rebecca Simpson is involved, so I thought why not?

“The DJs have been doing the gigs for free and are happy to do them for local causes. It was an added bonus that Graeme agreed to help with this one.

"He has helped us out a few times and we are extremely grateful. Without the other DJs these nights would not happen though and I can’t thank them enough.”

Neil will also be joining Rebecca and a team from Hearts and Minds taking part in Scotland's Virtual Kiltwalk 2021 from April 23 to 25 to raise money for the charity.

Rebecca Simpson, chief executive of Hearts and Minds, said: “I am overwhelmed by the generosity of people, those walking the kilt walk in aid of our charity, everyone that has donated and to Neil Smart for organising the live gig as an additional fundraiser.

"To have such prestigious DJs show their support and give up their time is amazing and fully appreciated.

“It is such a hard time for everyone and all charities are fundraising therefore we are extremely grateful for this support and know that it will make a huge difference in helping us spread joy, smiles and laughter through therapeutic clowning.”
