Kirkcaldy family’s poignant tribute to parents killed by drink-drive college lecturer
The family of a Fife couple killed by a drink driver in a crash the week before Christmas have paid tribute, saying they miss them “more than words can express.”
Their moving statement came as a former Fife College lecturer admitted causing the fatal crash which led to the deaths of Satwant Singh and his wife Jatinder Kaur. They ran the Keystore convenience shop on Forth Avenue in Kirkcaldy and were well known and much loved figures in the community.
They were driving on the B981 near Cluny a week before Christmas 2025 when they were hit by drink-driver, Sophie Eve Hynd.
Mrs Kaur was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband died in hospital two days later.

Hynd, 33, who taught computer animation, was arrested and charged in May. She appeared at the High Court in Edinburgh where she pleaded guilty to causing their deaths. She was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on October 7.
Following her appearance, the three children of Jatinder and Satwant issued a statement which said: “We could never have prepared for losing our parents in this way.
“Mum was always there for us, whether we needed her advice, reassurance or someone to talk to, she always made things better. She was incredibly funny, kind and loved by so many people, and always made time for anyone who needed her.
“Nothing was ever too much trouble for Dad, he loved Mum and us more than anything. He was our role model and taught us the importance of working hard and looking after the people we love.” It added: “It’s incredibly difficult to accept they won’t be there to share the important milestones in our lives. We will miss them more than words can express, but we’ll carry their love and everything they taught us for the rest of our lives. We ask for privacy as we continue to grieve and come to terms with this devastating loss.”
Hynd, 33, who lost her job at the college, wept as she was remanded in custody at the High Court in Edinburgh. The court was told the crash happened after Christmas lunch and drinks on on the last day of the college term.
Judge O'Grady told Hynd she had pleaded guilty to a charge that was “very grave.”
