The new distribution point will be located in Enlightenments, House of Adam Smith, in the Merchants’ Quarter opening to foodbank visitors on September 1.

Although Enlightenments has not opened yet due to the ongoing pandemic, the foodbank has been granted permission to operate out of the premises.

Enlightenments is a skills development and enterprise hub, which aims to provide a range of support and practical space for new and young local business start ups.

The hub will also aid the development of 100 trainees each year into Fife’s hospitality, leisure and retail sectors.

Joyce Leggate, chairman said: “People will be able to visit the foodbank at Enlightenments every Tuesday and Thursday in addition to our other distribution points, meaning that we will be able to offer our services five days a week.

"Enlightenments offered us the space in its premises as they thought that what the foodbank was doing in the community sat well with the ethos of Enlightenments organisation.

"It has been very helpful to us to have been offered this space as there will be other support services in the building when Enlightenments opens that our clients can use if they need any help other than our own.

"The building really is lovely and it is a very welcoming environment.”

"Iain Macdonald, Adam Smith Global Foundation trustee said: “Kirkcaldy Foodbank will be operating out of Enlightenments for two hours every Tuesday and Thursday as we thought that it fits well within what we are trying to do.

"Enlightenments will provide a multi purpose enterprise hub – we are using the legacy of Adam Smith to revitalise this part of Kirkcaldy.

"Even though we are not open yet because of Covid, we will be in the near future, hopefully sometime in the next month.”
