The challenge sees challengers sprint, run, jog or walk 100km’s throughout the month of November to raise money for children and their families at Christmas.

Kingdom Kids is a childrens’ charity which aims to raise and distribute funds to groups supporting underprivileged and disadvantaged youngsters in Fife.

Last year the charity supported The Cottage Family Centre, Linktown Nursery and other organisations in Kirkcaldy.

Cllr Hisbent said: “I decided to do the 100km Challenge after seeing the amount of people who rely on foodbanks. A lot of people's lives have been turned upside down recently and the demand for help has shot through the roof.

"It is not just in areas of deprivation that people and families need support, it is all over.

"Anyone could be in the position of needing help, not just people who do not work or claim benefits – we are seeing more and more people who are in employment seeking support.”

Cllr Hisbent hopes that the challenge will not be too hard, but as she keeps fit with regular dog walks, she is up for the challenge.

"When I totted it up, I usually walk just over 3km’s with my dog so I need to up it to 15km’s a day to complete the challenge.

"It will be hard, but worth it, Christmas should be a magical time for children and the thought of some of them going without doesn’t bear thinking about.”
