Lorraine took the helm at the community centre last March at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In that time she has personally made over 4000 meals, as well as guide the centre thorough some of its darkest days in its history.

A full-time lecturer with Fife College and mother of four, Lorraine is also chairman of the Rabbit Braes Committee and has, on occasion, volunteered seven-days-a-week to ensure that no one is forgotten about in the community.

Mandy Henderson, centre manager said: "Throughout lockdown Lorraine has been amazing with endless pots of soup, various main courses and lovely scones for the volunteers.

"Some weeks Lorraine was opening the centre up at 7.30am for deliveries seven-days-a-week to ensure fresh produce was there to add to food parcels.

"She will do anything asked of her and never complains, and can be seen at 8am in the morning lifting tables and screens in preparation for the family events. “She also makes a very good scone at a moments notice – in fact she is Wonder Woman in the kitchen.

"As I have been the only staff member not furloughed, I would have been lost without Lorraine's support as chairman as well as her voluntary support.”

George Lindsay, board member and volunteer at the centre said: "Lorraine goes above and beyond for anyone who walks through the centres door and she has made me feel very valued as a board member and as a volunteer.

“When I helped at the Spooky Walk it made me realise the absolute dedication she gives to ensure the community had fun."

Joyce Leggate, chairman of Kirkcaldy Foodbank said: “Lorraine has been a great help for us at the foodbank, the meals of soup, stovies and everything else she makes have benefitted our visitors greatly.

"Whenever we have any vegetables that haven’t been handed out she turns them into soup for us. Her meals are very popular with our visitors.

"Lorraine’s efforts to provide meals for the community has added to their diets and improved their health.”
