Kirkcaldy’s anonymous knitters add World Cup themed topper to Post Box

A group of anonymous knitters in Kirkcaldy have added their creative touch to the World Cup with a new Post Box topper.

The latest work from the Knit Kirkcaldy Yarn Bombing Collective on the red Post Box outside the former Cupcake Coffee Shop in the High Street celebrates the countdown to Scotland’s big games with saltire flags, a football and a ‘yes sir, I can boogie’ message.

The knitted topper has added a touch of colour to the town centre in the final days before our return to the World Cup stage for the first time in 28 years.

Scotland’s campaign kicks-off against Haiti at 2:00am on Sunday with many bars staying open to screen the big game, while hundreds of fans will make their way to Fife Ice Arena which is hosting the region’s only major fanzone.

Knit Kirkcaldy Yarn Bombing Collective have been creating some amazing decorations from wool to brighten up the town in recent years.

Post box toppers are a firm favourite of the group with some covering different themes appearing regularly on the High Street.

Starting as a group of four - which likes to remain anonymous -the collective has grown since it first began just over two years ago and now has around 12 members.

Their first topper officially created by the yarn bombers was one for Fife Pride in the summer of 2024 which had a rainbow and all the Wizard of Oz characters. Since then the knitters have created more and more fabulous designs and all because “it's fun”.
