It is now hoped that the new play park will encourage more people to visit the Prom throughout the summer and feel the benefits of the outdoors.

Convener of the Levenmouth Area Committee, Councillor Ken Caldwell said: “This project has been a great example of how local people can play their part in improving their community.

“The new play area looks fantastic and is proving very popular. It highlights the benefits of participatory budgeting. However, this wouldn’t have been a success without our close collaboration with Leven Community Council which has done great work in seeing this project to completion.”

The process, allowing the local residents to decide how they want public money spent, is known as participatory budgeting. It gets people involved in decision making in their local community. It has already been used in other places in Fife such as the East Neuk, Kincardine and Glenrothes.

Treasurer of Leven Community Council Eddie Young said: “I’m delighted with how the project has turned out and I hope that local families can enjoy using the new facilities during the summer months. It’s great to see how much of a contribution the community has had in this project with the amount of people who cast their votes in the decision-making process.”
