The cut-price operator has two planning applications with Fife Council.

Its plans to build a bigger store opposite Morrisons on the Esplanade, Kirkcaldy, have been in hand for some time – and are now moving.

Lidl has also lodged plans for a new store in Leven where it already has an outlet.

The supermarket hopes to start work in Kirkcaldy this summer – planning documents suggest it could come before councillors in July.

It was given permission to build on the empty land at Kirkcaldy Central Workshops in 2017, but nothing has since happened.

The store may now have a bigger sales area, and changes are planned to checkouts, and a different parking lay-out.

Plans were put on hold in 2018 with the development pushed back until 2019, and no prospect of it starting until this year.

Lidl has also submitted a planning application to build a store in Turpie Road, Leven.

It already has a base in the town’s Mitchell Street.
