Lidl reveals two Fife locations on wish list for new stores

Lidl is looking to expands its operations in Fife.

The cut price supermarket has identified two towns as locations for new stores in a UK update.

The company’s wish list includes new store locations in St Andrews and Dunfermline.

They were listed in a brochure which detailed the site requirements which highlighted locations “of specific interest” as part of its “ambitious growth plans.”

Lidl already has permission to open a new store in Kirkcaldy, but work has yet to start on the Espalande site opposite Morrison’s.

The company plans to relocate its existing store several hundred yards along the seafront to a larger site.

Lidl’s original planning application for the land were approved in 2017, but the company put them on hold the following year.

Hopes of a 2019 start were pushed back to 2020, and the development now has an updated planning application going through the process with hopes of a decision next month.

A spokesman for Lidl said it would be able to update its plans for the proposed new Kirkcaldy in the next few weeks.
