Locals give their reaction to shock closure of Fife bakery business

Fifers have been giving their views following the news that Carlton Bakeries is going into liquidation.

Many have expressed their sadness for the 60 staff who have now lost their jobs as well as sharing their memories of their favourite savoury and sweet treats, particularly the cream-filled fudge doughnuts.

A number of people have been sharing their thoughts on the Fife Free Press Facebook page today.

Yvonne Kerr said: “Lovely staff there, loved this shop was so glad when it came back the last time , fudge doughnutsGood luck staff xxxxx”

Kerry Gray said: “I feel so sorry for the staff who have lost their jobs - what a shame. End of an era. Best fudge doughnuts in town xx”

Linda Kyme Stewart also mentioned one of the bakery’s most popular sweet treats, describing them as the “Best fudge doughnuts in world.”

While Linda Anderson said her thoughts were with the staff: “ I feel so sorry for the 60 workers who have just suddenly lost their jobs so sad for all of them!”

Dougie Thomson agreed, he said: “Sad news. I hope they all find work. As if it wasn't bad enough at the moment.”

Some people also shared their memories of Carlton’s other cakes.

Scott Deacon said: “I loved when they did the racing car cakes with the marzipan wheels and the racers head on top of the car shame they stopped doing them years ago.”

Alan Burns tagged in a friend saying: “No more pink cake !!”; while Sarah Springthorpe noted the loss of the hedgehog cakes.
