Members of a Kirkcaldy bowling club are appealing to locals to invest in the 89-year-old facility to complete its refurbishment and ensure it serves the town for generations to come.

Members of Beveridge Park Bowling Club have launched a crowdfunding campaign to make sure all the costs of the upgrade are met.

While the majority of the funding has been secured, the members are needing to raise £5000 from the crowdfunder to get them over the final hurdle.

Work on the clubhouse’s refurbishment programme has recently started and it aims to improve access to the facility by widening doors, creating a ramp and improving its toilet facilities.

The upgrade will also see the space available in the main area of the clubhouse extended.

Once the refurbishment is complete, the members aim to open the facility all year round and hold various activities over the winter months. The clubhouse would also be available for other groups to use so it would become more of a community hub.

A club spokesman said: “In November 2017 we became aware that something had to be done to save the club from closing within five years.

“After seeking advice, we decided we needed to broaden our outlook and become more of a community hub. For us to open our facilities to all, it meant a complete upgrade of the toilets, disabled access, both external and internal and a complete modernisation.

“Funding for this has been obtained from Fife Environment Trust, Robertson Trust, Fife Council, Fife Charities Trust and Aldi. We have also used our own funds and had cash donations.

“We are aiming to raise £5,000 from crowdfunding and would be extremely grateful for any donations from residents and indeed any local businesses. We are hoping the project will be finished by the end of April.” The club’s crowfunding page, which has raised £1,240 so far, closes on March 6. Visit www.beveridgeparkbowlingclub.org.uk.
