Location of new GP walk-in clinic announced

The location of Fife’s new GP walk-in clinic has been revealed.

Buckhaven has been announced as the 10th facility created by the Scottish Government which aim to ease the pressure for appointments at GP surgeries.

The news was welcomed by David Torrance MSP for Kirkcaldy as a “major boost for health care access” across the Levenmouth area.

Speculation had centred on the new drop-in service being located in Glenrothes after it was announced that Fife was part of phase two of the roll-out, announced earlier this year.

The new centre will provide residents with easier access to healthcare services without the need for a pre-booked appointment, ensuring more people can receive timely medical advice and treatment.

Mr Torrance said: “I am delighted that Buckhaven has been selected as the location for Scotland's 10th GP walk-in centre. This is a significant investment in local healthcare and a clear demonstration of the Scottish Government's commitment to strengthening primary care services and improving access to NHS treatment.

"Residents across Buckhaven and the wider Levenmouth area will benefit from being able to access medical care more quickly and conveniently, without always having to wait for a routine GP appointment. This will help ensure that people receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time."

The SNP politician said that GP services across Fife have faced increasing demand in recent years, with NHS Fife highlighting pressures on primary care services, growing patient numbers and staffing challenges.

He said the new walk-in centre will help ease pressure on existing GP practices while providing an additional route for patients seeking care.

He also praised the Scottish Government for continuing to invest in frontline NHS services and highlighted the wider benefits the new facility will bring to Buckhaven.

"This is excellent news for Buckhaven. Not only will it improve access to healthcare closer to home, but it will support earlier diagnosis and treatment, reduce unnecessary journeys to A&E and other healthcare facilities, and contribute to the health and wellbeing of the whole community.

"I welcome this important Scottish Government initiative and look forward to seeing the positive difference it will make for patients across Buckhaven and the wider Levenmouth area."

The drop-in centres operate seven days a week, and are based in easily accessible locations in our communities across the country to try to address the 8:00am rush to get an appointment to see a doctor.
