Lochgelly Incident: Bomb disposal called in as area sealed off

Emergency service are on the scene at Lochgelly as police have sealed off a construction site.

A large number of fire engines and ambulance incident response vehicles are on the site near Gray Street, after smoke was spotted rising from the ground.

A bomb disposal team has been spotted in the area,

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We received a report of smoke rising from the ground of a construction site on Hugh Avenue, Lochgelly, around 12.10pm on Tuesday, 10 March, 2020."Officers are assisting the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.

"Local road closures are in place around Hugh Avenue. There is not believed to be any serious risk to the wider public."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 12.29pm on Tuesday, March 10, to an incident involving a potentially hazardous material at a building site on Hugh Avenue, Lochgelly, Fife.“Operations Control mobilised two appliances and specialist resources to the scene, where crews remain in attendance with emergency service partners.”
