The donations mean Maggie’s has now raised over £20,000 to support its vital work after the coronavirus pandemic wiped out many of its major fundraisers.

The team at the centre have been handling more calls from people living with a cancer diagnosis while self isolating or adhering to social distancing , and wanted to ensure that would continue throughout the lockdown.

Alison Allan, centre head, said everyone was overwhelmed by people’s generosity. It will help us support people with cancer, and their families, for the next month.”

The health board was able to support the appeal thanks to a £500,00 donation from an anonymous person who said it should go to helping staff and patients.
