McDonald’s has started to re-open branches across Fife.

New measures have been put in place for serving food at the outlets in Glenrothes, Kirkcaldy, Leven and Fife Leisure Park, Dunfermline.

McDonald’s is only announcing which stores open on the day in a bid to avoid being swamped – and they are only operating as drive thrus or for delivery.

The move follows a successful pilot down south in May as the fast food company looked at how it could return to operations as lockdown restrictions were eased.

McDonald’s said that customers may have to wait longer to get served as staff adjust to new procedures to enable safe working and social distancing.

The company is also working with local authorities and the police, and pledged it will close its drive-thru facilities if queues cause disruption or put customers and staff at risk.

Social distancing has been introduced in the kitchens and service areas, and there are perspex screens at drive-thru windows where staff will wear protective equipment.

They will also be asked to confirm they are fit and able to work. Contactless thermometers will be used to take employee temperatures on arrival at work for every shift.

Delivery procedures with couriers are contactless for both staff and customers, while restaurants will return with smaller teams, offering a limited menu and operating reduced hours.

While I have your attention, I also have an important request to make of you. In order for us to continue to provide high quality and trusted local news on this free-to-read site, I am asking you - wherever possible and providing it is safe for you to do so - to also please purchase a copy of our newspapers; the Fife Free Press, Fife Herald, St Andrews Citizen, East Fife Mail and Glenrothes Gazette.

Inevitably falling advertising revenues will start to have an impact on local newspapers and the way we continue to work during this period of uncertainty.
