A fundraising campaign to secure new premises for a Kirkcaldy support group saw it head to Fife Retail Park to spread its message last weekend.

Nourish, which supports families with children who have additional needs, has outgrown its current base in Glebe Park Community Centre and needs to raise £15,000 to move into a new building in the town.

Members of the group, some dressed as popular kids television characters, took to the retail park, with banners and posters featuring the ‘Nourish Needs a Pound’ slogan on Saturday in an effort to raise more funds.

"World of Parties let us borrow some mascots, so families who were visiting the retail park had the opportunity to have photographs taken with characters from Paw Patrol, Sid the Shark, and Nellie the Elephant.

“We were dancing and having fun - children's faces really lit up.

"We raised a fantastic £424.43 by just having fun. I would like to thank everyone who has supported us in our journey to try to raise the funds for new premises.”

So far, the group has raised £5864 since starting a JustGiving page last month.

Marilyn Rennie, whose grandson attends Nourish, took part in the weekend event, and dressed as Nellie the Elephant to help rally support.

She said: “Nourish is a great charity. When you see families coming together, who haven’t had any help whatsoever from any other agencies, the support that they get from Nourish is life changing.

"It provides families with help, people can come along and be part of the group after feeling like they have been alone for so long - it’s lovely to see.”

She added: "The building that Nourish want to move into would be absolutely perfect. If we all work together we will be able to raise the funds to make it happen.”
