For Jim Milligan, president of Invictus MCC Scotland, it is a personal stop.

Cpt Woods was Jim’s platoon commander when he was in 1 Para, before Cpt Woods was transferred to 2 Para.

“We were very close and good friends,” said Jim, who lived in Methil during his time in the Armed Forces.

“He had been in the military for a number of years. He was promoted to captain before he died at Goose Green. He was just 29.”

The group will be setting off from Newcastle on August 1, stopping off at Edinburgh, before hopefully arriving in Kennoway at around 12.45pm.

The clubs, which are made up of former and serving paratroopers and Royal Marines, will hold a short ceremony to remember the fallen before continuing their long journey.

“We are showing respect to the war dead and reminding people of their sacrifices.

“If members of the public would like to join us to show their respect, they are more than welcome.

“If there are any paras or marines who want to come, even if they don’t have bikes, they are also welcome.”

Around 50-60 riders are expected to take part in the event which will be raising funds for charity.

The clubs have already raised thousands of pounds for the South Atlantic Medal Association, which aims to help veterans stay in touch as well as providing support to those who need it.
