In April 2017 Kinghorn Historical Society was awarded a grant of £42,100 by the Scottish National Lottery Heritage Fund, part of which went towards completing an oral history project in conjunction with Kinghorn Primary School and the Kinghorn Lunch Club.

Pupils from the school took on the role of interviewer on two occasions.

In October 2017, 26 primary seven pupils interviewed 14 long term residents of the village, and then in May last year 24 primary six pupils interviewed 13 long term residents.

A spokesperson for the historical society said: “The pupils were brilliant at the interviewing and the results were excellent.

“The interviews were transcribed by a band of ten volunteers many of whom had never done any transcription before, but they all did a terrific job and we could not have managed without them.”

The new book, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, features edited highlights from the interviews.

The spokesperson continued: “One copy of the book is free to everyone who took part, either by being one of the gallant few who was interviewed; one of the children who did a sterling job with the interviewing; or if you helped with the transcription or proof reading.

“We have contact details for all the adults who took part, but due to data protection we do not have details for the 50 pupils involved.

“Consequently, we intend to have a stall outside the old bank in Kinghorn High Street on Saturday, August 29 from 10am to 1pm when people can come and claim their copy.

“The pupils are now in S1 or S3 at Balwearie High School. Thank you to Kinghorn Primary School and all who took part.”
