Fife Employment Access Trust (FEAT), which runs Silverburn Park, confirmed the opening of the Silverburn Park camping and glamping site on Friday, September 18, with three glamping pods, spaces for 12 tent pitches and four campervans.

Bookings are already in the diary well into next year.

Duncan Mitchell, CEO of FEAT, admitted he was relieved after much frustration in making the campsite operational. “We’ve had to delay the opening of the site due to a variety of factors, from planning permission hold-up to the discovery of ordnances in the allotment field next to the campsite – and then just as we overcame all of the obstacles, we went into lockdown,” he said. “The lockdown period stopped our contractors from completing the installation of the shower block and the final bits and pieces needed to secure the campsite licence, so it is truly a milestone moment to be able to open.”

Income generated from the campsite will go back into the redevelopment plans for Silverburn Park, which have reached a more advanced stage thanks to support from a variety of funders including the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Architectural Heritage Fund, as well as support from Fife Council.

The group will now push ahead with renovations to the flax mill, although significant fundraising is still needed to achieve this.

FEAT is welcoming along members of the Russell family, who originally gifted the park to the people of Levenmouth back in the 1970s, along to the opening ceremony.

Duncan said: “The Russell family have been hugely supportive of our plans for the park and have also contributed financially to getting the campsite up and running. We also have to give a massive thanks to Fife LEADER, Fife Environment Trust and the Ramblers Holidays Charitable Trust. who helped to fund this development.”
