New campsite to open in Fife park

As part of the regeneration of Silverburn Park, Fife Employment Access Trust (FEAT) which runs the park, is opening up a campsite, which will include three eco-pods for those interested in glamping, four spots for campervans (not caravans or motorhomes) and 12 tent pitches, as well as a toilet and shower block.

It is hoped that it could be open all year, apart from the two-week Christmas break, meaning those who want to brave the cold winter weather are free to do so.

The charity is now taking bookings for the campsite, which is expected to open in the spring.

Brian Cashman, campsite development manager, said the campsite could generate further funds for the park.

“My vision is that we make enough money to buy more eco-pods and expand the campsite,” he added.

The campsite will also fit in with plans for the regeneration of the old flax mill. The charity wants to turn it into a visitor centre with a restaurant, cafe and hostel.

Brian said there had been a “phenomenal” amount of interest in the new campsite, and noted the main target users will be those walking along the Fife Coastal Path, which sits just 500m from the campsite. However, he is also keen that locals make the most of the new facility.

“This adds to the local portfolio,” he said. “When the rail link opens more people might want to stay in the area, and this is an alternative.

“We want the local community using it, as well. It’s for their benefit.”
