Last year Craigencalt Trust worked with the landowner at Craigencalt Farm and Fife Council transportation to map out a suitable path through the woodland which would take pedestrians safely away from traffic at a bad bend.

Marilyn Edwards, of Craigencalt Trust, said the new path, was funded from Kinghorn Common Good. Construction began in October 2019.

She said: “A digger and driver were kindly supplied by Alcan, and the new path was soon cut out.

"Then it was the turn of all the volunteers to lay the surface.

"It was a tremendous team effort and the path was made usable in just one week – and immediately people took up the opportunity to use the safe path.

“There was one more addition awaited to complete the project - Fife Council to lay a pavement at the top of the hill to allow people to safely join the road which has now been installed. The Trust has added signage, a bench half way along, and an information board.”

She added: “The new path is very popular.

"It not only provides a circular route both east along the Mire Path but also west around Craigencalt, but once folk have walked further up the road, they have splendid views over Kirkcaldy, the Firth of Forth and Inchkeith to enjoy.

"Our thanks go to everyone involved in getting the job done.”
