New online initiative to support Fife schoolchildren studying at home

A new initiative has been launched to help young Fifers pick up school studies from home.

Getting Ready for Home Learning is a joint initiative between NHS Fife, Fife Council and Fife Health and Social Care Partnership.

The resource focusses on the simple actions that parents can take with their children to make sure they are best placed to get the most out of learning at home.

It highlights helpful links and other initiatives, such as Connecting Scotland, which provides iPads, Chromebooks and other support to develop the digital skills of young people who are digitally excluded or from low income families.

Sarah Negrette, head of children and young people’s occupational therapy services, said: “Everyone is doing their best in these challenging circumstances, but we know that learning at home can be effective and made more so when there is a balance between structure, play and leisure activities.”

Carrie Lindsay, executive director of education, said: “We know that this is a very difficult time for a lot of people.

“Families might be dealing with a number of different stresses right now and no-one wants to add to that.

“We also know that most parents do want to help and support their children and there are lots of different resources out there to help with that.

“This resource provides a lot of really good advice and ideas for parents to help make home learning a happier experience. “
