New play on renowned Fifer Jennie Lee goes online

A new play celebrating the life of pioneering Fifer, Jennie Lee, is set to be unveiled.

Tomorrow Is A New Day, by Matthew Knights, tells the remarkable story of the woman who founded the Open University and transformed learning for millions of people.

Jennie, a miner’s daughter from Lochgelly, was also the UK’s first Minister for the Arts, and became the youngest female MP in the House of Commons when she won the North Lanarkshire seat aged 25 in 1929

She was a Labour Member of Parliament from a by-election in 1929 until 1931 and then from 1945 to 1970, and later became Baroness Lee of Asheridge.

The play began with a workshop in her home town in April 2019.

Now, a rehearsed reading is to be presented online.

It takes place on Thursday October 22 at 7:00pm

Tickets are available by donation on Eventbrite, with a suggested donation of £3.
