Fife Health and Social Care Partnership launched The Wells in 2018 to connect local people to local support within their own community that promotes healthy and independent lifestyles.

The Wells provide a way for local people to access information, advice and support in their community, with the aim to connect people to specific groups or services that will support their continued wellbeing.

Prior to Covid-19, it ran alongside local organisations such as community sheds, lunch clubs, and churches, but has since transitioned to virtual wells.

Now operating under the banner The Well Near Me, it allows people to have a video conversation with team members from the comfort of their own home.

Aleksandra Atanasova, project coordinator, said: “Prior to the pandemic The Wells were set up as venues where anyone can drop-in and find out information and receive general advice to help them stay well and independent within their local community.

"Currently our virtual Wells operate the same - anyone can join our virtual waiting room and discuss the things that matters to them. There is no need for a referral. Everyone is welcomed.

"The service allows people to speak to health and social care professionals and discuss any enquiries in relation to their health and wellbeing.

People can speak to social work staff, local area co-ordinators, self-directed support advisors, benefits advisors, and others.

"Our staff deal with a number of different issues, with some common issues being in relation to benefits, housing, social care and mental health.”

Aleksandra adds that there is a lot of support for people in the community if they know where to find it.

She added: “We need to make people aware of what is out there. Not everything can be fixed by a visit to the doctor or statutory services.

"The staff within the Well are very knowledgeable about their local communities and the support available in them.

"We aim to support people right there and then, and we do use a variety of other services available and we direct, signpost and refer people when that’s needed if the person can’t do this for themselves.”

The Well Near Me is live every Wednesday and Thursday from 10am to 12pm, if you would like to access the virtual Well as a drop-in please visit: The Well
