Pictures: How Kirkcaldy brought in the New Year through the 60s, 70s and 80s

These pictures date from the 1960s and spotlight packed local venues in Kirkcaldy on Hogmanay.

Only one of them, the Strathearn Hotel, is still going today – the Dutch Mill was demolished to make way for what is now a supermarket on the corner of Forth Avenue, while the Station Hotel building stands but has just been converted into flats after lying empty for several years.

The days when Kirkcaldy’s nightclubs were legendary across the country also hark back to a different era.

Jackie O and Bentley’s dominated the scene for an entire generation and both brought some of the biggest stars of the era to town. Both are now demolished with housing taking over the land.

Our archive pictures show local folk bringing in a new year in the Lang Toun during the 60s, 70s and 80s.
