Plans for more socially-distanced markets in Levenmouth

Levenmouth is to host a second socially-distanced summer market following the success of the first major event in the area post-lockdown.

The market, held in Methil in late July, welcomed hundreds of people, with more than 30 stalls selling everything from arts and crafts to food and drink.

It was the largest event of its kind in the Kingdom since the lockdown was eased, with measures put in place to make sure that visitors, volunteers, staff and stall-holders were safe at all times.

It is now hoped the market will become a monthly event – with an eventual return to the Shorehead car park.

Brian Robertson-Fern, BRAG managing director and chair of Levenmouth Together, the group behind the event, said: “Based on the success of our July market, we have decided to make this a regular event.

“Our next market will also be held at BRAG’s Levenmouth Community Enterprise Centre on August 15, with the hope of our September market then moving back to Leven town centre.”

The market was the first held at the Levenmouth Community Enterprise Centre, and the site was carefully organised to adhere to government guidelines.

As well as helping traders restart their businesses, it also gave people the chance to make some of their first steps out of lockdown.

A one-way system was used with visitors browsing stalls carefully spaced with a one-way shortcut leading back to the start for those who wanted to revisit.

There was also live music from local singer Lily Mentiplay who delighted shoppers with her range of popular classics.

Feedback after the event has been positive, with stallholders and visitors alike praising the safety measures.

The organisation of the market with dedicated entrance and exit was also praised. Most stall-holders had sold out their stock, with visitors loving the speciality food stalls.

Michelle Ratcliffe, Levenmouth Together events officer, added: “It was a great success, even the staff and volunteers enjoyed it.

“We are looking forward to many more.”

Any profits generated are a way to raise funds for the local community chest.

This chest is available for local groups to access.
