Plans to regenerate Fife town centre take step forward

Plans to transform a Cupar gap site have taken a step forward.

At Fife Council’s Policy and Co-ordination Committee Meeting last week members agreed to support projects including the redevelopment for affordable housing of the Bonnygate Cupar gap site and the area known as the Inner Court.

The Inner Court Redevelopment project aims to create a mix of 23 affordable houses and apartments, as well as one commercial unit, on a gap site next to the Bonnygate car park.

Last month Fife Council gave developers permission to demolish bakery buildings, a detached outbuilding, and an industrial workshop, all of which are derelict, as well as the boundary walls.

A small business grant fund to support shop front, internal fit out and conversions of upper floors to housing/other uses will also be established.

This small grant will offer funding of between £6000-£10,000 to help town centre business and property owners in the recovery phase of Coronavirus to develop premises fit for the demands of a 21st century town centre.

Gordon Mole, head of business and employability at Fife Council, said: “Our towns provide a great range of shops and services and they have adapted to keep serving local people and providing essential services.

“Our town centres are important retail, service and social places. Fife Council is encouraging people to stay safe and spend local and I am confident that investment in these projects will reap benefits for businesses.”
