St Monans businessman Darren Peattie, owner of the East Neuk Salt Company, has been working with Billy Morris, a member of the community council, on transforming one of the village’s salt pan houses into a visitor attraction.

Now, the duo want to breathe new life into the old bathing pool and the putting green.

“We decided to do it all as one and create a real family space,” said Darren.

“It’s huge for the village.

“It’ll be a community-wide project so people can feel that they are contributing to the village.

“That was a real community space when I was young. It’s a wasted space now. It makes sense if we are restoring the pan house – why not do up the family space as well?”

The project follows the success of a similar scheme in Pittenweem, where the West Braes Project is in the process of restoring its local pool.
