However, thanks to the generosity of locals, who have given around £15,000 towards the fundraiser, on top of a £5000 grant from Fife Coast and Countryside Trust, the group has been able to start work on a document which is needed to the secure larger pots of funding needed to complete the restoration project. Some of the funds are also being kept aside for any potential temporary repairs in the future.

“We need the document before we can go to the large-scale funders,” explained Jimmy Simpson, chairman of the pier sub group.

“They want all the details. Unless you have that, you can’t make the application.”

The group consulted the public earlier this year, asking locals what they wanted for the future of the pier, and whether they supported the group in its efforts. Locals backed the group and voted for the pier to be restored to heritage standards.

Mr Simpson said he was “delighted” with the support of residents, adding: “We’ve been amazed at the generosity of people. We’re delighted because it shows the community is supporting the project.”
