The Craigencalt Trust is holding its seventh annual programme of guided walks from Kinghorn to Aberdour and all the events are completely free.

The festival is running from March 23 to April 8 and has something for everyone from gentle strollers to seasoned ramblers as well as those with disabilities.

The original idea for the walking festival came from Marilyn Edwards, one of the trustees.

She said: “I was reading about other walking festivals held in Scotland, in particular one in the Borders that needs transport to get to the start of the walks because public transport is poor.

“I realised that in our locality we have buses and trains that run regular services, a tremendous advantage. This is why we can run it as a free event and then you can allow folk to register right up to the day with no problems.

“This will be our seventh Walking Festival and the event has gone from strength to strength.”

She continued: “The area covered stretches from Wemyss along to Aberdour, but it also goes inland visiting Auchtertool and Cullaloe Woods.

“We generally keep half the walks from last year and the other half are new/different ones to give choice. The first walk is one we always start with, the troll story telling walk is repeated annually for families and the last walk finishes with a lunch at the ‘Barn at the loch’ cafe at Craigencalt Farm.

“Two new walks this year are the historical ones for Kinghorn and Aberdour. Also the Wizards Walk around Raith Lake and coming back into Beveridge Park is a new family walk.

“The paths that the Trust has constructed over the years are all family and disabled friendly, with no steps. The Walking Festival programme aims to have a walk suitable for everyone.”
