He was joined by his wife Linda and daughter Tara when lottery ambassador Judie McCourt revealed his cheque on a video call.

Robert, a retired sales manager, said: “I am flabbergasted. Wow, just absolute wow.

“It couldn’t have come at a better time. I’ve had a lot of issues health-wise recently and I’ve been feeling a bit down but this has just lifted my spirits and given my morale a real lift.

“We split the ticket with our daughter Tara so she has won too as we’ll split the winnings fifty-fifty. It’s a double whammy really!”

Linda added: “Tara has lost her voice at the moment but she has tears in her eyes! I’m absolutely speechless, things like this don’t happen to us.”

The win is also a late birthday present for Tara, who works in Cowdenbeath medical practice, as she has just recently celebrated her 40th birthday.

There are more celebrations on the way, as Robert and Linda have a special anniversary coming up later this year. Robert said: “It’s our golden wedding anniversary in November so some of it will go towards a special holiday when we’re able to travel again, maybe to Vienna.”

While Linda said: “I’d love to have a big family party when we can!”

Robert went on to add: “We’ve got lots of planning to do and lots to look forward to now that we can afford it!

“It’s not really sunk in yet but I think we’ll crack open a bottle of champagne tonight.”

The remaining winner chose to remain anonymous but their cash prize will be paid into their bank account.

People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt said: “It was my pleasure to deliver some good news to Robert, Linda and Tara. How lovely to get a golden envelope with a nice big cheque inside on the year of their golden wedding anniversary! I hope our second lucky winner is just as thrilled as they are.”

People’s Postcode Lottery costs £10 a month to play and there are guaranteed winners every day. People play with their chosen postcode and are automatically entered into all draws.

A minimum of 32% of ticket sales goes directly to charities and players of People’s Postcode Lottery have helped raise over £700 million to date for thousands of good causes across Britain and internationally.

Robert likes the fact that so many good causes are being supported and he said: “We believe in helping where we can and it’s wonderful to think you’ve helped other people.”

Cruse Bereavement Care Scotland is one good cause close to the winners that players have supported. Last year it was awarded £17,950 to run support groups across Fife to support people who have been bereaved.

This draw was promoted on behalf of Postcode Education Trust which supports organisations including War Child, Book Aid International and UNICEF with regular grant funding.
