Star Ross, 7, is aiming to collect enough food donations over the next few weeks so that no-one will go without on Christmas Day this year.

Her mum, Rosie, said her daughter is incredibly thoughtful and wanted to do something to help those less fortunate.

She said: “Star initially wanted to invite every person in Dysart who was alone at Christmas over to our house for dinner, but we told her that due to Covid we couldn't do that.

"She then said she wanted to take a plate of Christmas dinner to them, and we told her there are already charities that do that – and that’s when we suggested the foodbank.

“We said to her – that way everyone in need can benefit from it and she got really excited about that."

Rosie said she has been contributing to the foodbank through Dysart Primary and that she has already made up a couple of boxes full of items like soup, pasta, tinned vegetables and fruit.

She continued: “My dad and sister have made cash donations, and they said to Star that she could go ahead and buy some things for it on their behalf as they stay in Forfar.

"She wants to collect enough so everyone can enjoy Christmas and not have to worry about anything.

"She really wanted to invite all elderly people that were going to be alone for Christmas dinner but when she couldn’t do that and I asked her what she wanted from Santa, she chose to help give to the foodbank instead.

"I think she wants to help others because we have been in a position ourselves where we are just able to make ends meet and she has been hearing about all the Covid stuff on the news and how other people are struggling – whether it is with money or being out of work and some losing their businesses.

“She is very thoughtful.”
