The people behind the popular Los Buenos Amigos stall at Kirkcaldy’s Friday Artisan Market will open the shop on the town’s Victoria Road.

Alicia Aguilera is launching the new endeavour from the former site of the Carlton bakery, which closed down during lockdown, on Friday, August 28.

She said the business had grown after initial success running as a stall.

Alicia, who comes from Spain but has lived in Scotland for 12 years said: "We’ve been doing this for about six months, covering markets and events, but when the coronavirus came we changed it to home deliveries and it’s been brilliant.

"People all around Fife are starting to know us now and our reviews are really good. We decided to open a shop because people want more.”

The shop will also sell ingredients for those who want to try cooking their own Spanish food.

"In Spain the takeaways are different from here," added Alicia. “You can go in and see on display what you want, not on a menu of the wall but you can actually see the food.

"You can take food cold to heat at home or you can take hot. It’ll have different kinds of tapas and Spanish meals. People can pre-order and we’re still doing the home deliveries.

"We’ll have paella of course because it’s our main product, and different kinds of tapas, croquettes, meatballs, Spanish omelette, and seafoods like octopus or prawns – and every couple of weeks I’ll update the menus with new things for different places in Spain.”

The former Carlton Bakery site has been empty since the business stopped trading in April this year.

But Alicia said that the shop is well-positioned due to the busy street and good parking nearby.

“We wanted some place that had free parking nearby, so people are able to come into us without having to spend two hours looking for parking. It’s walking distance from the High Street.

"The pavement is quite big so we’re going to setup a gazebo right in front of the shop once or twice a week and cook paella right on the street so people can come in and buy the paella at lunchtime.

“For the price of a supermarket microwave meal, you can just come into Los Buenos Amigos and properly homemade food, like traditional meatballs or patatas bravas.”
