Spooky drive-in cinema planned for Hallowe’en in Fife

Spooky film screenings and monthly car boot sales are coming to Levenmouth, as part of a new batch of events.

Levenmouth Together will be hosting ‘Scarefest 2020’ at Hallowe’en – a drive-in movie event where younger viewers will be treated to family films, before two horror classics are shown for the adults.

The drive-in will begin on Saturday, October 31, at 5pm, with Hocus Pocus. Then, at 8pm, the original Halloween will be showing on the screen. The next day, Matilda and then Poltergeist will be showing.

It promises to be the full movie experience, with each car given free popcorn, and various snacks and drinks on sale. The event, sponsored by Fife properties, Alex Little Funeral Directors, The Windsor, Creed Competitions and The Leven Programme, will be held at the East Fife FC car park.

Viewers are encouraged to dress up for a fancy-dress competition. People wishing to attend should be warned, though – there may be a scare or two on the night.

Levenmouth Together’s events officer Michelle Ratcliffe said: “We were disappointed not to bring the area a summer drive in movie ourselves, but it has worked out quite well, due to the current circumstances as the regular Bonfire night celebrations had already been cancelled – so Scarefest is a fun, family alternative.”

As well as the drive-in, the organisation is also planning a new monthly car boot sale.

The car boot will run from April to October ever year on the last Sunday of every month. The first car boot sale will take place on September 27, from 10am-3pm at Brag’s Levenmouth Community Enterprise Centre in Lower Methil.

The aim is to give local people a chance to recycle their unwanted goods and have a clear out after lockdown. Car boot spaces and a pitch for one hot food vendor are also bookable via the brag website shop – www.brag.co.uk/shop.

These are just two of the latest events planned by Levenmouth Together, which was also behind the summer and winter markets at the Shorehead, and the successful running competition on the beach last year.

The new socially-distanced markets have also been a success, with more planned in October and November.

Chairman of Levenmouth Together, Brian Robertson-Fern, said: “Based on the feedback from both the traders and members of the public, we decided to continue at our Methil site as it was apparent that people felt safe there and its was an easy site for us to manage.

“We do, however, aim to move back to Leven town centre for our annual Christmas market in December and have lots of plans in the pipeline.

“I would remind everyone that the work we do is very much a team effort and I pay tribute to all our volunteers and sponsors ensuring that the area does all it can to recover from the lockdown.”

Tickets for all the films at Scarefest 2020 are now available to buy on Eventbrite (search for Levenmouth Together or visit Levenmouth Together on Facebook for links).

The team is also looking for volunteers to add to its events crew. Anyone interested should email events@brag.co.uk or mratcliffe@brag.co.uk for more information.
