A fundraising campaign to secure new premises for a Kirkcaldy support group is set to take over the town’s roundabouts to get its message across.

Nourish needs to raise £15,000 to move into a new building.

The group, which supports families with children who have additional needs, has outgrown its current base in Glebe Park Community Centre.

It has now teamed up with mental health group, Pete’s Man Chat, to stage a roundabout day where volunteers will gather at 11 main roundabouts in the Lang Toun on Saturday with banners and posters to raise awareness of its fundraiser.

Nourish’s appeal has already netted £2300 via a JustGiving online fundraiser, but it needs to hit £15,000 to secure the first year’s rent for new premises at Elizabeth House at Barclay Court, Kirkcaldy at a time when lockdown has put all other regular avenues of financial help on hold.

Lynne Scott, Nourish manager said: “The support that we have received is just amazing. It has been a really overwhelming few days for us seeing how many people are willing to help us.

"Usually when we put a plea for help out, it’s because someone has asked us for support and we’re looking to help a family in need. This time we need the help and we have been blown away by the response.

"The Fife Free Press, Pete’s Man Chat Movement, and others have all gone out of their way to help, and we are so grateful.”

Lynne added: “We’re really excited for our roundabout appeal day. Pete has come up with such a fun and unique way to raise awareness.

"Donations have started coming in - we’re a long way from our target yet so we still need to raise a lot of money in a short time, so please donate what you can. Every £ really helps.”

Pete Melville, founder of Pete’s Man Chat, offered his support after reading about the appeal.

He said: “The new building the group is hoping to move into would be great for all of its families, and it would be able to support even more people than ever before.

"For me, the fact that Nourish has supported its families through the pandemic and cared for each and every one who needs its services, the least we can do is try to give them a bit of support back.

"Nourish has been life changing for so many people, and is a noble cause that has been a lifeline for people who are sometimes at their lowest.”
