Tourism St Andrews members took to the streets last week to continue promotion of its ‘StaySafe St Andrews’ charter – a unified message and strategy which demonstrates the town’s commitment to safe working practices and government guidelines.

The innovative approach has received excellent feedback from tourism organisations and the public, with national press coverage and a social media campaign.

Support from the university’s student community relations team has ensured that residential mail drops have been made throughout the local community. The association, supported by local volunteer organisations, has also been offering pamphlets and free masks, donated by the Old Course Hotel, to visitors.

Helen McBride, general manager of The Old Course Hotel, said: “It has been a privilege to partner with the StaySafe St Andrews initiative by providing face masks to help visitors safely enjoy all St Andrews has to offer.”

Debbie MacCallum, chairwoman of Tourism St Andrews, added: “So many local businesses and attractions have made contact with us to pledge their support and promote StaySafe St Andrews both at a physical level with banners being prominently displayed, and via their social media channels to guests and visiting customers.”

MSP Willie Rennie also joined the team to support the initiative, and said: “It is everyone’s job to do everything we can to keep the virus from spreading. That is why it is such a boost to see the St Andrews community coming together to embed good and safe practices.”
