Jim Gibson organised a hair shave event to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK, after his diagnosis.

Residents in Balmullo quickly rallied round and set up their own event to raise more funds for the charity.

A number of adults and kids from the village will be crossing the bridge on Sunday, February 23, from 3pm, some of whom will be wearing their pyjamas.

Jim will then be getting his head shaved at 7pm on February 29 at the Balmullo Inn, having let his hair grow long for more than a year.

Lesley Manzie, one of the adults taking part in the walk, said it has been a “community thing”, with people also donating prizes for a raffle.

“We’re just a group of friends,” she said.

“We know him and were aware of his diagnosis. We’re all aware of Alzheimer’s. We’ve all been touched by the disease, so we thought we could our bit as well as members of the community.”

Lesley said some adults had been hesitant to agree to wear their PJs when crossing the bridge.

“The kids will probably have to their put their pyjamas on top of their clothes,” she said.

“The women are doing it. I wasn’t overly keen. But if the kids are doing it, the adults have to do it as well.”
