A little girl has died after being struck by a car in a Fife village.

The tragedy happened this morning in Townhill in west Fife.

The youngster was taken to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy where she died a short time later.

The incident happened around 10:10am in Main Street, Townhill. Emergency services raced to the scene, and police closed the road while they investigated. The driver of the car was uninjured.

Sergeant Stephen Quinn, of Road Policing East, said: “Our thoughts to out to the family of those involved with this tragic incident.”

He said inquiries were continuing into the circumstances and urged anyone with any information to contact police.

He also appealed to any motorists with dash cam footage of the area at the time to get in touch.
