Peter Macdonald was minister at Torbain Church between 1990 and 1998, but left a huge impression on church-goers and the town itself.

He became a staunch supporter of Raith Rovers, and after the team’s famous Coca-Cola Cup win, even performed a Sunday service with the actual trophy.

“Peter was a real go-getter. He was full of life.

“If obstacles were put in his way he’d find a way round them.”

Peter also played a big part in the creation of the Oasis Project on Ellon Road, which supports the homeless.

Fiona said: “He just wanted to help people get on their feet again and help with whatever problems they had.

“He was a man of great vision, and a very dynamic man.”

Ken Gilbert, Assistant Session Clerk at Torbain, said Peter attended the famous Coca-Cola Cup final.

Ken added: “A few months afterwards, one of the Raith coaches, Derek Smith, came to the church with the Coca-Cola Cup and it was placed at the bottom of the pulpit.

“When Peter came in he got an absolute shock – he was delighted.

“If Peter took something on he did it wholeheartedly, and great enthusiasm. He was also an emotional man as well.

“He was a really good minister for Torbain Church, and he came at the right time.”

Peter left in 1998, going to St George’s West in Edinburgh.

Last year, when Torbain Church celebrated its 50th anniversary, Peter was invited back to speak.

“I think it took him aback a bit,” said Fiona, “during his sermon he actually got quite emotional about Torbain.

“It just shows you the connection he had with the town.

“He’ll be greatly missed by so many.”

Peter died suddenly on Wednesday, February 12.

His funeral was held at Warriston Crematorium in Edinburgh on Tuesday, March 3.

He is survived by his wife, Lesley Orr, sons Callum and Lorn.
