Tributes paid to popular Leven businessman

Known to some as ‘Mr Johnny Bingo’, Michael ran a successful amusements and leisure business in Leven for decades.

Michael was on the road as a child, attending various schools around England while growing up as a showman, going from fair to fair. But it was in Leven that he would plant his roots and start a family.

Michael married Marlene on November 29, 1962. The couple would go on to have three children: daughter, Lauren, and two sons, Michael Jnr and Sheldon.

Michael and Marlene set up their business and home in the town in 1967, where they would remain for the rest of his life.

He was passionate about his family, and also a keen golfer, though heart issues meant he had to stop playing years ago.

Marlene moved into the Leven Beach Nursing Home two years ago, and Michael would visit every day. He would continue to visit in the last two weeks of his life, as lockdown eased.

Paying tribute to Michael, his family said: “He was friendly with everyone. He enjoyed other people having a good time. Nothing was too hard for him to do. If anyone spoke ill of anyone, father would say ‘no, he’s alright’. He never complained about anything.”

A service was held at the Kirkcaldy Crematorium last week.
