Tributes pour in for Fife Police stalwart who served community for 40 years

John Cordiner, who passed away on February 1, worked for Fife Constabulary for almost 40 years.

Mr Cordiner has been praised for his distinguished career with Fife Police and his work in Kirkcaldy as a traffic warden.

The dad-of-two moved to work in the Disclosure Unit before retiring in 2011.

Police Scotland announced his passing on Tuesday with a statement from Divisional Commander Derek McEwan.

He said: “Fife Division are sad to announce the passing of John Cordiner on 1st February 2021.

“John worked for nearly 40 years with Fife Constabulary as a Traffic Warden and latterly in the Disclosure Unit before retiring in 2011.

John was a much loved husband of Iris, dad to Scott and Stewart, father-in-law to Lynda and Sharon and grandad, brother, uncle and great friend to all who knew and worked with him.”

Tributes also flooded in to the force’s Facebook page.

Hazel Wiseman said: “Sad to hear this. Fond memories of John and all the TWs at Kirkcaldy. Thoughts are with his family at this time.”

Dianne Jamieson said: “Sorry to hear this sad news, he worked with my uncle at Kirkcaldy before he moved to St Andrews. Thoughts with family and friends.”

Tish McEwan said: “I was so very saddened to hear the news about John. I worked with him in Kirkcaldy.”

Gayle Penman wrote: "An absolute gentleman with a great sense of humour."

His funeral is due to be held this Friday, but it will be a private service due to coronavirus restrictions.

Friends and former colleagues have been invited to pay their respects on Rosemount Avenue, near Kirkcaldy Crematorium, but have been asked to adhere to social distancing.

A fundraising page has also been launched by friends and family to raise cash for the Fife Health Charity.

It said: "John was given excellent care in Ward 51 an then in the Intensive Care Unit at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy.

"We would love to be able to give something back to show our appreciation."
