Two Bell Baxter pupils named Cupar Junior Citizens of the Year

Two Bell Baxter students have been named as the joint winners of the Cupar Junior Citizen of the Year award.

Logan Fenton and Calum Christie were selected from all the nominees because of their role in bringing a therapet to the school.

The high school welcomed Golden Retriever puppy Bella earlier this year – marking the end of a two-year campaign led by the pair.

It began as an English essay, and led Calum and Logan to investigate the benefits of having a dog in school.

Last spring Callum and Logan took their idea to the rector Carol Ann Penrose, before seeking approval from the parent council and then delivering a presentation to the school staff.

The plan was approved and school staff and students then worked to raise the funds needed to get Bella, eventually securing the £2500 needed.

She is now receiving training to become a fully-fledged therapet. When this is complete, Bella will spend time bringing comfort to the students at the school.
